We invite you to help support the mission of the Division of Social Work in educating and preparing students to become effective, ethical, and competent social workers by providing quality and diverse learning opportunities toward the betterment of the human condition within the state of Wyoming, nationally, and internationally. Please take a moment to learn more about the exciting initiatives the Division of Social Work provides to help meet the learning needs of our students and prepare them to serve Wyoming and beyond. We invite you to consider giving general gifts to the Division or the Social Work Excellence funds that support a variety of activities as you can see below. Or you can support any of our three student scholarships.
Pictured at left, Shandra Lazar, MSW Cohort of 2018, was the recipient of the Kay L. Cox Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship provides support to help non-traditional students as well as students experiencing financial need.
Gifts to Division of Social Work provide us with the flexibility to support the mission of the Division in diverse ways such as funding BSW and MSW students so they can attend professional social work conferences, offering research support to faculty, supporting student learning initiatives, and developing community outreach initiatives.
The Social Work Excellence Endowment promotes excellence in student learning by supporting applied research, service, practice, and advocacy initiatives they develop. This student-centered focus is a key aspect of the Social Work Excellence Endowment. The purpose of the fund is to encourage and support our BSW and MSW students to enhance their educational experience at the Division of Social Work by developing exemplary initiatives in areas they are passionate about, helping prepare them to become highly competent social work professionals who are making an impact in the lives of others.
The James Wiebler Memorial Fund for Excellence was established in 1996 to accept gifts from friends and colleagues of Dr. James Wiebler, first Director of the Division of Social Work. The purpose of the fund is to promote social work education. You can help keep the legacy of Dr. Wiebler alive by supporting the James Wiebler Memorial Fund for Excellence. Your gifts help us to make a social work education possible for deserving students.
The Kay L. Cox Memorial Scholarship provides scholarship support with preference to non-traditional social work students and/or students with financial need.
The Palmer Memorial Social Work Scholarship provides scholarships to social work majors. Lenore Palmer, who graduated from UW in 1941, worked for the Wyoming Department of Social Services as a caseworker - mostly in Cody, Powell, and Cheyenne. After her passing in 2010, her children wanted to honor her and her husband, who also worked in social work, by establishing this scholarship.
For information on how you can give a gift of support to the Division of Social Work, please visit the UW Foundation Gift Information page and view individual UW Funds to locate Social Work under the College of Health Sciences.
We welcome your ideas on ways we can best support the mission of the Division of Social Work. Please feel free to contact the Interim Director of the Division of Social Work, Dr. Valerie Marie Thompson-Ebanks at (307) 766-5639.
