Research Experience
Dr. Hanson has worked on several research projects with domestic and international colleagues across the social sciences and humanities. Most recently, he has been working on a series of papers related to artificial intelligence, sexuality, emotions, and sex toys. A number of his articles focus specifically on sex doll users. Other work examines dating app users, the sex tech industry, Reddit, and social network analysis. His research has appeared in the following journals: Symbolic Interaction, Deviant Behavior, Sociological Inquiry, Sexuality & Culture, Contexts, Current Sexual Health Reports, Sociological Focus, and Sex Roles.

Outside of UW Dr. Hanson is a member of the American Sociological Association, the Society for the Study of Symbolic Interaction, and The International Congress on Love & Sex with Robots.
