Cowboy Coaches

Meet Your Peer Mentors

Our peer-mentoring program is made up of current students called Cowboy Coaches! These peer mentors bring a deep understanding and perspective to our students who may need a little extra help, friendship or mentoring. While all first-year students will be assigned a Cowboy Coach, all students are welcome to book an appointment with a coach. We also have Transfer Cowboy Coaches to give a tailored experience to the robust community of transfer students at UW! Stay up to date with Cowboy Coach events!

Our mentors are matched with other students based on a variety of traits including areas of study, personality, social factors, and more. The Student Success and Graduation Hub provides our coaches with a high level of training to ensure each mentor can take a solution-based and empathetic approach when working with their peers. Cowboy Coaches are supervised by our staff in the event a student is in crisis and requires additional resources from licensed professionals.

Transfer Cowboy Coaches

At UW, we understand the unique challenges transfer students face. That's why we have Transfer Cowboy Coaches—trained peer mentors who have experienced the transfer process themselves. These coaches provide personalized support, helping you navigate life at UW and beyond. With their solution-based and empathetic approach, you'll always have someone to turn to. Plus, our coaches are backed by the Student Success and Graduation (SS&G) staff, ensuring you have access to additional resources if needed.

Campus Characters

While Cowboy Coaches provide personalized support, UW has a cast of Campus Characters that can provide some inspiration, comic relief, and a fun presence at campus events! Meet some of UW's most well-known, including our mascots Pistol Pete and Cowboy Joe, prominent campus statues and the popular campus wildlife.
