Jan. 22, 2009 -- Renowned tap dancer Ellie Sciarra will give an informal free performance of her repertory dance piece Friday, Jan. 23, at 7 p.m. in the University of Wyoming Fine Arts Center Studio Theatre.
The UW Department of Theatre and Dance hosts Sciarra this week as part of its guest artist series. Sciarra is teaching and setting a repertory piece for UW dance students.
Sciarra conceived, produced and choreographed in part "Taps Are Talking: Women in Tap," highlighting the stories of female tap artists.
Currently president of Taps Are Talking, Inc., a non-profit devoted to promoting the art of tap dance, Sciarra has worked professionally for television and stage in New York City, Munich, and Amsterdam. She has been a guest teacher and choreographer at the American College Dance Festival, University of Northern Colorado, Interlochen Arts Academy, Black Hills Dance Theatre, Colorado Dance Festival, and the New Orleans Jazz Project.
In 2008, she was selected to choreograph and perform at the Aspen Dance Connection and was on the 2009 UW Snowy Range Summer Dance Festival faculty.
