Oct. 6, 1999 The Broadway aspirations of University of Wyoming alumnus Brad Bond will
seem much closer when his show hits the New York stage this month.
"Celestina: a Tragic Musical Comedy" began as a Spanish master's thesis for Bond (B.A.
'88 and M.A. '91). He adapted a classic Spanish novel, "La Celestina," by Fernando
de Rojas, into a stage version he called "Shades of Green." The play was produced
in Laramie in 1993, but since then has undergone a transformation into a full-scale
Broadway-style musical with 28 numbers.
This incarnation of the show includes a 15-person cast directed by Bond. It is scheduled
to run for 16 performances at The Producer's Club II Theatre in Manhattan. It opens
Oct. 22 and runs through Nov. 6.
Bond composed music and lyrics for the play, which had staged concert readings last
year in New York City. Those readings resulted in Bond being signed by Writers and
Artists, one of the leading literary agencies in the country.
