Feb. 20, 2007 -- The University of Wyoming Department of Theatre and Dance will present
a spring dance concert “the body through which the dream flows.” March 1-4 on the
Fine Arts Center mains stage.
Performances are at 7:30 p.m. March 1-3, and at 2 p.m. March 3-4. Tickets cost $7
for students, $11 for senior citizens (60 and older) and $14 for others. For tickets
and information call (307) 766-6666 or go online at www.uwyo.edu/finearts.
The dance concert brings stories and portraits of women center stage, featuring original
choreography by dance faculty member Margaret Wilson. It explores and celebrates the
embodiment of creativity in women through time.
Wilson's concert juxtaposes narrative sketches of influential women with choreographic
interpretations of their spirit and vision. Dancers performing solos and duets and
in small ensemble pieces are balanced by larger, celebratory ensemble works. Composite
sketches of the creative spirit in different relationships across disciplines and
through time will be presented.
The women profiled include Hildegard of Bingen, Marie Curie, Loie Fuller, Frida Kahlo,
Barbara McClintock, Ayn Rand, Georgia O'Keefe, Isabelle Allende, Elizabeth Bishop
and Virginia Woolf.
