March 24, 2005 -- The University of Wyoming Department of Theatre
and Dance's Spring Dance Show, featuring original work from UW dance
faculty members Mel Claridge, Ana Paula Hofling and Penney Hutchinson,
will tour Wyoming April 11-15.
Admission is free and open to the public except where noted. The locations, dates
and times are:
SHERIDAN Wyoming Theatre, April 11, 7 p.m., $5 general admission.
GILLETTE Campbell County High School, April 12, 7 p.m.
THERMOPOLIS Hot Springs County High School, April 13, 7 p.m.
CODY Cody High School, April 14, 7 p.m.
CASPER Casper College, April 15, 7:30 p.m.
Claridge contributes three pieces to the concert. "Incontro alle sei" is
an imaginative rendering of the relationships that emerge among six
people dining at a formal restaurant. "Toward the Within" provides a
glimpse into the lives of two women trapped in their own disturbed
realities and "The Way I Feel" is a lyrical and hard edged jazz dance
for nine women.
Hofling's work includes a quartet that uses manipulation of time and
space to create metaphors about romantic relationships. It will also
include a piece that begins with simple head turns and tilts that evolve
into full body movements representing different emotional dynamics
among the dancers.
Hutchinson's contribution includes "Strange Light," a piece with
original music by Fei Wu that incorporates both traditional Chinese
instruments and Balinese gamelan.
