April 7, 2011 — University of Wyoming Department of Theatre and Dance students received top honors at the recent Region VII Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) and Northwest Drama Conference (NWDC), held at Humboldt State University, in Arcata, Calif.

In technical theatre, senior Sarah Varca, Laramie, won first place in the Region VII KCACTF Level 1 Costume Design competition for "Private Lives" and first place in the Level 2 Theatre Crafts and Technology competition for "Puppet Portrait."

Senior Matthew Plamp, Highlands Ranch, Colo., received a KCACTF/Barbizon Meritorious Achievement Award in Scenic Design.

In performance, senior Anne Mason, Laramie, won the NWDC Musical Theatre Scholarship, while junior Lauren Schulz, Cody, was honorable mention for that award.

Theatre faculty member Casey Kearns received the KCACTF National Faculty Fellowship in Scenic Design.

KCACTF is part of a national theater program involving students from more than 600 academic institutions nationwide. Region VII KCACTF includes Alaska, Northern California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Northern Nevada, Oregon, Washington and Wyoming.

At all levels, KCACTF festivals and associated programs recognize, encourage and improve the quality of university and college theater in the United States. This is accomplished by creating opportunities for theater departments and student artists to showcase their work and receive outside assessment by selected respondents.
