June 30, 2003 -- Alumni from throughout the country will join the cast of The University
of Wyoming Department of Theatre and Dance production of "The Dining Room," scheduled
at 7 p.m. July 3-5 at the Fine Arts Center main stage.
Tickets cost $13 for adults, $11 for senior citizens, and $6 for students. For information
and tickets call (307) 766-6666. The play was written by A. R. Gurney and is directed
by UW Professor Leigh Selting, whose vast theatrical credits include directing the
award-winning "Dead White Males."
"The Dining Room" will be a highlight of the 50th anniversary of Summer Theatre at
UW. More than 70 alumni, faculty, staff and current students will act, design, crew,
and assist in the production.
This comedy opened off-Broadway in 1982 and enjoyed a comfortable run of 552 performances
before expanding to audiences in regional professional theatres. The setting is a
dining room, viewed as a disappearing phenomenon of American family life.
"Gurney cleverly constructed this work as a series of events with characters of all
ages flowing in and out, with each event and actor in a different part of personal
or family crises," says Harry Woods, UW Department of Theatre and Dance publicist.
"The play is poignant and funny, alternately and in combination."
