World Needs More Cowboys Bus

Please obey the following rules to ensure the safety of all riders and drivers. Any personal care attendants or companions traveling with a rider must also follow the rules. The Rider Code of Conduct includes, but is not limited to:

  • Arrive at bus stops on time: UW buses operate on a schedule. Drivers cannot wait for passengers to arrive or stop for passengers who are not at a designated bus stop.

  • Do not chase buses: Chasing buses is unsafe, and bus drivers cannot stop once they have left the bus stop.  

  • Layovers: Passengers may be asked to disembark the bus during a layover, new passengers may be asked to not board the bus during a layover.

  • Do not distract the bus driver or bother others: Interfering with the safe operation of a transit vehicle can be hazardous to everyone on board. Please refrain from talking or engaging with the bus driver while the bus is in motion. 

  • No Smoking: UW Buses are required to be smoke free. See UW Regulation 6-6 for more details

  • Personal Hygiene: Riders shall maintain appropriate and reasonable personal hygiene/body odor. – Clothing: Appropriate clothing (i.e., shirts, shoes, etc.) must be always worn

  • Disruptive Behavior: Riders must maintain appropriate social behavior while interacting with drivers and other passengers. Riders may not physically abuse or threaten others. Obscene language or actions will not be tolerated. All body parts must be always kept inside the UW buses. No playing of radios, CD players, or other noisy equipment (without headphones) on the UW buses.

  • Children: Parents must control children and ensure that they are seated.

  • Service Animals: No petting guide dogs or service animals without the permission from the owner. 

  • Littering: No littering or throwing objects from the UW buses.

  • Equipment: No operating or tampering with any vehicle or driver equipment. 

  • Departing the Bus: Riders must depart UW buses upon demand of a driver or any other UW Transportation Services Representative. When departing the bus, be sure to take all belongings. UW is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged items.

  • Keep it clean: Respect those who ride after you. Please keep feet off the seats and remove your trash when you leave.

  • Lost and Found: It is UW Transportation Services policy that all lost and found items found on buses are turned into UWPD every day.

  • Strollers and Car Seats: Collapsible strollers are allowed on UW buses. Passengers with strollers must remove the child and collapse the stroller on board the vehicle. Strollers and empty carts must be properly folded and stored as to not impede the free movement of passengers or the driver in the aisle, doors, or emergency exits and must not present a potential hazard or danger to riders.

  • Car Seats: Most UW buses are not equipped with seat belts and car seats cannot be restrained properly. It is recommended that passengers hold children tightly in their laps while traveling or use a front pack carrier. 

  • Carry-On’s: Passengers should try to keep a carry-on limit of two (2) reasonable items. Carry-on items should cause minimal disturbance to other passengers and should not take up a large amount of space or block the aisle or seating of other passengers.

  • Prohibited Items: Open containers of alcohol, illegal drugs, and dangerous weapons (except concealed handguns in compliance with state law) are not allowed within the vehicle parameters because University policy and/or Federal or State law prohibits these items on University property (See UW Regulation 6-4; SAP Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention Policy, Wyo. Stat. Ann. 31-5-235, 35-7-1031) Similarly, flammable, or explosive materials are not allowed on the UW Buses.
