About the Graduate Program in Nutrition and Dietetics

The Graduate Program in Nutrition and Dietetics (GPND) at the University of Wyoming is a master of science (M.S.) degree program designed to prepare students for professional practice as Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDNs). Through a blend of active coursework and supervised experiential learning, students gain the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to work in a wide range of nutrition and dietetics settings. Our program emphasizes real-world application, critical thinking and evidence-based practice, allowing students to learn directly from experienced professionals while working with diverse populations. Graduates of our program leave prepared to sit for the RDN exam and make a meaningful impact on individual and community health through nutrition.

Graduate Dietetics Program Highlights

Hands-On, Immersive Learning

Experiential learning is at the heart of the dietetics program. Students gain real-world experience through supervised rotations while engaging in interactive, applied classroom instruction that makes learning both meaningful and fun. Students also have the opportunity to take part in meaningful research and other avenues for immersive learning.

Research Opportunities

Students learn from dedicated faculty who bring real-world experience and research expertise into the classroom. Dietetics Program Director Jeff Gilis, a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist since 2013, has worked across clinical inpatient and outpatient care, community nutrition and sports nutrition settings, giving students valuable insight into diverse professional pathways. Our nutrition and food faculty also represent a wide range of research and practice areas, including eating behaviors, sensory food science, product development, micronutrient needs, disease prevention, indigenous and traditional diets, health disparities and the impact of nutrition on health outcomes. This depth of expertise ensures students receive a well-rounded, relevant and forward-thinking education.
