Statistics Bachelors Degree Program Highlights

The statistics degree program at UW is full of enriching experiences. Students will have an opportunity to learn from highly-qualified faculty and take part in a number of experiences that prepare them for the challenging world of mathematics. Below are a number of program highlights that make us unique.

Quick Start M.S. Program

An advanced degree in statistics is powerful in its own right; statistical methods are part of the core of data science. If you're interested in earning a higher degree, the program in statistics at the University of Wyoming now offers a Quick Start (“4+1”) M.S. program, within which qualified students can obtain an M.S. degree in only one year. The program is intended for inspired, high-achieving students; the pace will be intense, as you will need to be taking courses at the graduate level in your undergraduate senior year. The M.S. degree requires 30 credits; in order to make the 4+1 program work enrolled students can:

1. Have two three-credit 4XXX/5XXX classes count towards both the B.S. and M.S. degrees. Enrollment must be for the 5XXX section of the course. Tuition is charged at the undergraduate rate.
2. Reserve two three-credit 4XXX/5XXX classes for graduate credit. Tuition is charged at the undergraduate rate, but these two classes will only count toward the M.S.

With these four courses counting towards the M.S., there remain 18 credits, which can be done in two semesters of three (three-credit) classes each.

Center for Assistance with Statistics and Mathematics

The Center for Assistance with Statistics and Mathematics (CASM), offers free, in-person, drop-in tutoring for UW students who are looking for mathematics or statistics help. Our tutors are advanced undergraduate and graduate students. The opportunity to work in the CASM looks great on a resume and can help solidify mathematical and statistical knowledge.

A bachelor's degree in statistics gave me the tools and skills to pursue a career in academics or industry. I left the University of Wyoming knowing I was prepared to succeed in a graduate program or on the job market.
