Interviews Scheduled with UW Alumni Director Candidates

Four candidates interviewing this month for the position of the University of Wyoming's executive director of Alumni Relations will have public interviews and receptions on campus.

Each candidate will give a public presentation and respond to questions from the audience. The topic of their presentations will be "How Can UW Reach Out and Engage Alumni?" These sessions are open to all UW faculty, staff, students and alumni.

A public reception will be from 4-5 p.m. Wednesday, May 25, for the first two candidates and from 4-5 p.m. Thursday, May 26, for the final two candidates. Both receptions will be held in the Wyoming Union East Yellowstone Ballroom.

Candidates, in order of their presentations, will speak at the following times and places:

Wednesday, May 25, 8-8:45 a.m., Family Room, Wyoming Union -- Michael Johnson is the assistant vice president for alumni relations at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, and transitioned to that position from one as vice president for alumni and donor relations at the University of Northern Colorado Foundation. Previously he served as executive director of alumni relations at the University of Northern Colorado and as director of alumni relations at Northwest Missouri State University.

Wednesday, May 25, 9-9:45 a.m., Family Room, Wyoming Union -- Tyler Bowen has been the director of alumni relations at Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall, Minn., since 2002. Previously he was a business education teacher and head boys basketball coach at Houston High School in Houston, Minn., and assistant guest services manager at the Wyndham Garden Hotel in Bloomington, Minn.

Thursday, May 26, 8-8:45 a.m., Family Room, Wyoming Union -- Sarah Brown Mathews is currently the major gifts manager for Wyoming Public Media at UW. Her earlier employment includes development director for the Wyoming Stock Growers Agricultural Land Trust; College of Education constituent development officer for the UW Foundation; executive director of the Loveland, Colo., Habitat for Humanity; and marketing director for planned giving at the University of Colorado in Boulder.

Thursday, May 26, 9-9:45 a.m., Family Room, Wyoming Union -- Keener Fry now serves UW as an associate director of athletics for annual giving. Before returning to UW in 2007, he was headmaster and operations manager at Covenant School in Huntington, W. Va. From 1997-2001 he was senior associate athletic director at UW.

The executive director is responsible for planning and managing programs, operations and events for UW alumni in Wyoming and around the world and will coordinate with officers and members of the UW Alumni Association to create and implement strategic initiatives and enhancements to existing activities and offerings. As a key liaison to the UW Foundation, the executive director will coordinate alumni activities with university fundraising initiatives.
