Campus Construction Update for Week of April 1

March 30, 2012

These are among the construction activities scheduled April 1-7 at the University of Wyoming.

The UW Facilities Planning Office reports the following activities for the week:

A&S Auditorium -- The project is complete, except for removing some seats to accommodate wheelchair spaces. The project focuses on adding wheelchair access from the seating area to the stage. Lifts have been installed.

West Stadium handrails (War Memorial Stadium, scheduled completion this fall) -- Work is starting to add handrails, steps and new walk-surface coating at the aisles. Initial activity will be minor repairs and prep work.

Energy Innovation Center (formerly ERC, at 1020 Lewis St., scheduled completion September 2012) -- Access to main campus will be between or through Earth Sciences and the Berry Center. Lewis Street will remain closed during construction. Parking will be limited in areas around construction, including the drive along the west side of Engineering. The access from main campus, along the west side of Engineering to Lewis Street, will be closed during this phase of construction. The west end of the ramp, behind Engineering, will be closed. Handicapped parking has been relocated to the northwest corner of Lewis and 10th streets, with access through the Berry Center or Earth Sciences Building to main campus.

Framing of interior walls will continue, including rough-in of mechanical and electrical systems. Exterior wall system framing will continue on all levels, along with temporary weather enclosure. Installation of the exterior enclosure will continue along the south and east, and includes insulation and masonry work. There will be construction traffic for delivery of materials throughout the week. Expect congestion from deliveries, and take extreme care when walking around trucks waiting in the street.

UW Office Annex (21st and Garfield, scheduled completion Sept. 30) -- The project involves partial renovation of the lower lever of the west wing for improvements to offices and other adjacent multi-user spaces. Asbestos abatement is under way until March 31. Access is restricted to the east and west entrances.

The UW Physical Plant reports the following activities for the week. Please direct questions to the service desk, 766-6225.

Jacoby Golf Course -- Construction has started on an east campus drainage project at Jacoby Golf Course. Signs are posted at the affected holes and in the clubhouse. The affected holes will be off limits during construction hours (7 a.m.-5 p.m.) for the remainder of the construction period. Please use caution in the work areas.

Information Technology Center -- A lift will be staged on the south side of the facility Friday to facilitate roof repairs. Please use caution around staging area.

Agriculture Building -- Painting on the third floor center stairway, up to the seed laboratory, will be done this week. Please use caution in this area. Painting in the bathrooms will resume this week. Signs will be posted for closure at that time.

Law School and Corbett Building -- Lighting replacements continue within these buildings. Please use caution around work areas. This project will help UW in its continued effort to be more energy efficient. The work is funded, in part, by energy rebates from Rocky Mountain Power.

Anthropology Building -- Roof repairs are complete.

Corbett Building -- Painting in the south hallway and storage area is complete.

East Shuttle Lot (30th Street and Willett Drive) -- Bus shelter relocations are on hold until the new shelters arrive.
