The Brasil Guitar Duo will join the University of Wyoming Symphony Orchestra Thursday,

The Brasil Guitar Duo will join the University of Wyoming Symphony Orchestra as it closes out the season with a performance of "Romeo and Juliet," Thursday, April 12, at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts concert hall.

To start the evening, UWSO will perform a four-minute piece, "Ginestera's Danza Final-Malambo."
The Brasil Guitar Duo will then perform Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco's "Two-Guitar Concerto." This concerto is by an Italian who moved to the United States, went to Hollywood and composed more than 200 film scores. He also taught young film composers, including John Williams.
"They are one of the most exciting young guitar ensembles touring today, appealing to audiences young and old," says Classical Guitar magazine. "The maturity of musicianship and technical virtuosity is simply outstanding."
A suite from Prokofiev's masterpiece, "Romeo and Juliet," will be performed during the second half of Thursday's program.
"This is a piece I've wanted to do for many years, and now we have the players to recreate this great music," says Michael Griffith, UWSO conductor. "Prokofiev profoundly captures the drama, the emotion and the tragedy of the story so that, without the dancers, you'll see the characters in your mind's eye."
The Brasil Guitar Duo also performs a Cultural Programs Concert Friday, April 13, at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts concert hall. Tickets cost $18 for students and senior citizens, and $22 for others.
