Dave Stallings is UW Employee of the Quarter
July 9, 2012 — Dave Stallings, assistant supervisor of the campus movers, is the University of Wyoming's Outstanding Staff Employee of the Second Quarter.
The award recognizes UW staff members for their efforts toward excellence in the workplace.
Stallings began his UW career in February 1977, first as a custodian before joining the moving crew. He recently was promoted to assistant supervisor.
“He has been employed as a mover for UW for 17 years. Within that time he has developed excellent skills in addition to being an invaluable person who knows the UW campus and buildings inside and out,” says a person who nominated Stallings for the award. “This knowledge of UW assists all the movers in knowing they can ask him any question about either moving something or location and will get an answer.”
Another writes, “He works behind the scenes and is not recognized for the great job he does. I view this person as an unsung hero who consistently provides an important service to all departments on campus. The job is not an easy one and can be very demanding. He is courteous and helpful and often times works under pressure with deadlines other departments place on him.”
Whether it’s moving office furniture, helping set up for awards and banquets or assisting others on campus, Stallings and his crew always are reliable and do an excellent job, another nominator says.
That’s important in his job, Stallings says. He makes sure the customer is satisfied with the movers’ work.
“What I like about my job is that there is something new just about every day,” he says. “Even though we are moving a lot of things all the time, we see different people on campus, which makes this job seem like we’re doing something different all the time.”
As the assistant supervisor, he fills in when his supervisor Lee Kempert is busy with his day-to-day duties or away from the office. Stallings fills in answering phones, taking customer orders and lining up the crew for its next jobs on campus.
“I try to make sure the job is done properly,” he says. “I’ve seen quite a few people come and go here on campus, and I’ve received a lot of good advice from folks along the way. It seems like folks are always willing to help you out.”
Employee of the Quarter nominees can be any UW staff employee and must receive three nomination forms from three separate individuals. Nominations must be submitted to the Staff Senate office. The forms are on the web at http://www.uwyo.edu/staffsenate/employee-of-the-quarter/index.html.
