Campus Construction Update for Week of Nov. 11

November 9, 2012

These are among the construction activities scheduled Nov. 11-17 at the University of Wyoming.

Power Outage Scheduled at Earth Sciences, Geology, Bureau of Mines and Energy Innovation Center -- Tentative power outages have been scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 17, due to ongoing work at the Energy Innovation Center. Geology and Bureau of Mines will be without power for half an hour at the beginning of outage and another half hour at the end of the outage. Earth Sciences and the Energy Innovation Center will be without power for the 12-hour duration. Outage times will be finalized by Facilities Planning.

The UW Facilities Planning Office reports the following activities for the week:

Enzi STEM Facility -- The parking lot on the east side of 10th and Lewis streets is closed. The contractor will fill in foundations on the east side for the start of the construction of the Michael B. Enzi STEM Facility. Street parking along the site is now open.

Ivinson Parking Lot -- The Ivinson monument masonry work is complete. A concrete ramp and monument pad are partially complete. Flood lights are installed, and the remaining concrete pad installation is scheduled this week. Commemoration plaques will be installed the first part of November. All four metered spaces and motorcycle parking are blocked off for contractor staging. Work may require the Ivinson sidewalk to be closed at times, so pedestrians will need to go around the area. All of the Ivinson parking lot is now open, adding 67 new parking spaces including ADA (Americans with Disability Act) spaces and four metered spaces. Access is from both 10th and 11th streets. Landscaping is complete.

Museum Closed -- The UW Geological Museum is closed for renovation and is scheduled to reopen in January. The first phase of landscaping around the T-Rex area will be complete within the next few days.

Counselor Education Training Clinic (Education Building, scheduled completion mid-December) -- Renovation construction work continues in the northeast portion of the Education Building basement. Limited access for students, faculty and staff via the northeast building entry has reopened. Construction activities and staging will continue, requiring appropriate caution in the area. Construction staging will continue to occupy a portion of the pedestrian walkway and accessible parking area northeast of the Education Building. Temporary substitute accessible parking has been designated with temporary signage.

UW Office Annex (21st Street and Garfield, scheduled completion Nov. 15) -- The project involves partial renovation of the lower level of the west wing for improvements to offices and other adjacent multi-use spaces. Conference rooms are complete. Ongoing work includes mechanical and electrical system testing, cabinets, plumbing fixtures, doors and hardware, and trim-out.

ESCo Project (Energy Services Company) -- Long Energy Services Co. employees will not be on site this week.

University of Wyoming/Casper College Student Union (UW/CC Student Union, scheduled completion November 2013) -- The primary building enclosure is complete, allowing interior construction activities to proceed on schedule. Framing of interior partitions in UW third- and fourth-floor spaces continues. Overall project construction is approximately 50 percent complete.

White Hall Renovations -- New installations continue on the eighth through 12th floors. Excavation for a new transformer vault on the east side of White Hall is complete, with new electrical feed and concrete forming scheduled for this week. Fencing is placed around the area. The west parking lot will be closed until summer 2013.

Energy Innovation Center (formerly ERC, at 1020 Lewis St., scheduled completion December 2012) -- Access to main campus will be between or through Earth Sciences and the Berry Center. Lewis Street will remain closed during construction. Parking will be limited in areas around construction, including the drive along the west side of Engineering. The access from main campus, along the west side of Engineering to Lewis Street, will be closed during this phase of construction. The west end of the ramp, located behind the Engineering Building, will be closed. Handicapped parking has been relocated to the northwest corner of Lewis and 10th streets, with access through the Berry Center or Earth Sciences Building to main campus.

Interior finishes continue throughout the building. Door and hardware installation is under way. Installation of lab equipment and casework is nearing completion on the first and second floors, with floor finish to be completed. Work continues on the south retaining walls and landscaping. Landscape work is complete on the north side. Interior painting is nearing completion, with floor finishes progressing throughout the corridors. The contractor has moved construction staging from the parking area north of Lewis. This will increase congestion and traffic on Lewis. Watch for trucks and equipment.

The UW Physical Plant reports the following activities for the week. Please direct questions to the service desk, 766-6225.

Snow Removal -- Physical Plant crews will be removing snow as needed throughout the season. Watch for snow removal equipment, be careful and safe during snow events, and call the service desk, 766-6225, to report ice spots and problem areas.

South Lot -- Rocky Mountain Power plans a power outage Tuesday, Nov. 13, from 11 a.m.-3 p.m.

Engineering Building -- Painting operations in the restrooms on the fourth, fifth and sixth floors are under way. Signs have been posted as to which restrooms are affected.

Crews have completed work on the third floor and are now continuing patching and painting on the first and second floors. Scheduling will be completed with departments and room occupants. Please use caution near equipment and materials.

Earth Science Building and Coe Library -- Cell site upgrades began Oct. 11. Work areas will be isolated to the roof and mechanical penthouses. The contractor anticipates drilling and coring activities during off hours or early morning.

Beta House -- Renovations to the first and second floors continue. Completion of the project has been extended to late November due to mechanical and plumbing issues.
