University of Wyoming Calendar for Aug. 19

These are among activities scheduled Aug. 19-25 at the University of Wyoming:

Thursday, Aug. 22, 7 p.m. -- UW President Bob Sternberg will welcome freshmen as part of the Summit Transitions Program, College of Arts and Sciences auditorium. Sternberg also will host a free welcome barbecue for all students at 5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 26, in Fraternity Mall.

Saturday, Aug. 24, 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., and Sunday, Aug. 25, 11 a.m. -- The Department of Theatre and Dance presents “Vertical Dance at Vedauwoo: Poetic Motion” at the Vedauwoo recreation area, 16 miles east of Laramie off Interstate 80.  Tickets cost $8 in advance or $10 at the site. They can be purchased at the Performing Arts Center box office, online at www.uwyo.edu/finearts or by calling (307) 766-6666.

A variety of exhibitions is on display at the UW Art Museum, located in the Centennial Complex at 2111 Willett Drive, open Mondays through Saturdays, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Free.

The UW Geological Museum is open Tuesdays through Fridays from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. weekends. Free.

The UW Department of Botany’s Williams Conservatory is open to the public from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and from 10 a.m. -3 p.m. Fridays. Free.
