UW Classes Begin Aug. 26

University of Wyoming fall semester classes will begin Monday, Aug. 26.

Students will be able to move into UW residence halls starting at 7 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 22. Freshmen students living in the residence halls and their parents are invited to the Washakie Center's Welcome to Wyoming dinner Thursday from 3:30-6 p.m.

UW President Bob Sternberg will welcome freshmen at 7 p.m. Aug. 22, in the College of Arts and Sciences auditorium as part of the Summit Transitions Program. Sternberg also will host a free welcome barbecue at 5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 26, in Fraternity Mall.

Motivational speaker Anthony Robles, a one-legged NCAA wrestling champion for Arizona State, will give a keynote talk and Department of Theatre and Dance actors will perform “UW Life” skits in the Arts and Sciences auditorium Friday, Aug. 23, from 2-4 p.m. Following the talk, UW Spirit team members will lead a team walk to Jonah Field, where football coach Dave Christensen and basketball coach Larry Shyatt will welcome students.

Many activities are scheduled during the summit, designed to help freshmen gain important knowledge about their transition to UW and have fun while interacting with their peers. The program, focused on academic support and strategies for successful transition, features guest speakers and small group time with returning students and faculty.
