Musicians from Brazil, Puerto Rico, Germany and the United States will perform during an evening of chamber music Friday, Feb. 27, at 7:30 p.m. in the University of Wyoming Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts concert hall. The event is free and open to the public.
The concert opens the UW Department of Music’s spring Faculty Recital Series, and will include the “Piano Quartet in G minor” by Johannes Brahms and the “Piano Quartet, Op. 26” by Brazilian composer Enrique Oswald.
The four musicians for the recital have diverse backgrounds.
Violinist Carmelo de los Santos has been a guest soloist in more than 40 orchestras internationally and has won prizes in several international competitions in Argentina, Portugal and the U.S. He made his New York debut as soloist and conductor in the Weill Recital Hall with the ARCO Chamber Orchestra at Carnegie Hall.
Joel Pagan, viola, is originally from Puerto Rico, but currently resides in Texas. He serves on the University of Texas-Pan American music faculty, where he maintains an active chamber music career in addition to his teaching duties.
German guest cellist Barbara Thiem currently teaches at Colorado State University. Pianist Theresa Bogard serves as both head of the keyboard division and UW Department of Music.
