Womens History Month Events Scheduled at UW

February 24, 2015

Two events at the University of Wyoming will recognize Women’s History Month.

The UW Gender and Women’s Studies Program will honor “women’s voices” at the university and in the community with a panel discussion “Women’s Voices 2015,” featuring 11 panelists. The discussion is Wednesday, March 11, from 6:30-9:30 p.m. at O’Dwyer’s Public House banquet room, located at 1622 Grand Ave.

The program is a sponsored buffet dinner and is limited to 55 participants. To RSVP, contact Colleen Denney, UW Department of Gender and Women’s Studies professor, by Sunday, March 1, at cdenney@uwyo.edu. Non-dinner guests also are welcome, and beverages will be available for purchase.

Among the panelists are UW employees: Susan Frye, Outreach School dean; Danee Hunzie, Wyoming Union senior project coordinator; poet Ginger Ko, Coe Library senior office assistant; Shawna McBride, Department of Physics and Astronomy research scientist; Erin Fortenberry, creative writer and instructor for the UW Synergy Program; Erin Olsen, Wyoming Union assistant director; and Megan Selheim, Dean of Students Office senior project coordinator.

And community panelist members are: Emily Brown, Blossom Yoga owner and a body activist coach who helps women work on body image and eating disorders; Cynthia Dywan, co-director of 7220 Racing, the Laramie High School mountain bike team; Peggy McCrackin, co-director of “She’s a Runner Girl” program for girls; and Jess Ryan, owner of Our Real Work.

“The presenters will discuss the work they do -- either as volunteer work or as part of their careers -- on behalf of women and girls,” Denney says.

As part of the Albany County Public Library’s Author Series, Denney will discuss “A Visual Odyssey on Women’s Rights around the Globe” Friday, March 6, at 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

For more information about Women’s History Month activities, contact Denney at (307) 766-4351 or cdenney@uwyo.edu.
