The University of Wyoming 2015 Homecoming is set for Oct. 10-17, with the theme “Once a Cowboy, Always a Cowboy.”
A variety of activities has been arranged on campus for students, alumni, fans, staff, faculty and the Laramie community. Activities range from student competitions to open house celebrations, tailgate parties, the annual Homecoming parade and much more.
Alumni registration will take place Friday, Oct. 16, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 17, from 8 a.m.-11:30 a.m. Alumni can register at the Marian H. Rochelle Gateway Center or the Alumni House, 214 S. 14th St. At registration, alumni can pick-up an event booklet, update their contact information, and receive University Store and UW Art Museum discount coupons. Light refreshments will be available.
The UW Alumni Association will celebrate the class of 1965 with its 50-year reunion. The association also will honor the 2015 Distinguished Alumni recipients: Chad C. Deaton, Greg P. Hill and Dr. Wayne E. Wingfield, along with the 2015 Medallion Service Award recipient V. Frank Mendicino II. For more information about these awards, visit www.uwyo.edu/alumni.
The WYO-Gold Student Alumni Association again will sell Homecoming mums, which are now available for purchase online at http://wyoalumni.uwyo.edu/Mums. This is an annual fundraiser to support programming for the organization.
The parade will be held Saturday, Oct. 17, at 9:30 a.m., beginning at Ninth and Ivinson, continuing to Third Street, turning south to Grand Avenue, then east to 13th Street.
The UW Alumni Association and the WYO-Gold Student Alumni Association coordinate the parade. The grand marshals are Lillian Oleson Miller and Virginia “Ginny” Bryant. Miller graduated from UW in 1939 with a bachelor’s degree in commerce. In 1938, she was UW’s first Homecoming queen. She celebrated her 100th birthday in March of this year.
Bryant graduated from UW in 1941 with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and taught in Niobrara County. She and her late husband, Dr. Edward C. Bryant, had two children. She will celebrate her 100th birthday in October. Those interested in participating in the parade must fill out an application and return it to the Alumni Office by Friday, Oct. 9.
The football game this year will be against Nevada with the time yet to be announced. Fans can enjoy the Pokes pregame pep rally at the Gateway Center along with the Pepsi Pregame Zone in the Indoor Practice Facility. Both events take place three hours before kickoff.
