Sheridan High School junior John Lenzi, a GEAR UP Wyoming participant, is the first-ever Leadership Enterprise for a Diverse America (LEDA) Scholar from the Cowboy state.

He will attend the Aspects of Leadership Summer Institute this summer at Princeton University in Princeton, N.J. LEDA fully funds 100 students from across the nation to attend the institute during the summer before their senior year. The summer institute is an intensive seven-week program that focuses on preparing under-represented students for college admission.

GEAR UP Wyoming is an educational assistance program at the University of Wyoming that prepares income-eligible Wyoming students for success in higher education. The program is funded 50 percent through a grant from the U.S. Department of Education totaling $3.5 million annually, with an additional $3.5 million provided by in-kind and scholarship contributions from UW, Wyoming’s community colleges and the Wyoming Department of Education.

LEDA is a national, nonprofit organization that identifies and develops the academic leadership potential of “exceptional public high school students from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds.” The LEDA scholars program is free for all admitted students and provides ongoing resources and guidance for students attending college.
