Campus Construction Update for Aug. 28

These are among the construction activities scheduled Aug. 28-Sept. 3 at the University of Wyoming:

Roof replacements (Big Horn Roofing, Laramie; November 2016) -- Campus roof replacements will occur in the following order, weather permitting. Crews working at the Arena-Auditorium will mobilize to the Police Annex and Casper Family Practice. Replacements also will occur at the Arts and Sciences Building, northeast stairwell roof. Use caution around equipment and work crews’ activities.

Parking lot restriping (UW Operations Paint Shop) -- Restriping and repairs to campus parking lots are expected to continue through the summer. Crews will repair and replace signs as well as restripe parking spaces and curbs at various locations throughout the campus. Please be aware of crews and equipment in the area, and observe posted street and parking closures.

Irrigation -- As irrigation pressures vary, watering in some areas may occur during the day.

UW Operations (Facilities Engineering/Facilities Management) reports the following activities for the week:

McWhinnie Hall (Elk Ridge Builders, Laramie; August 2016) -- Installation of sidewalk grates to facilitate draining is scheduled to begin. Access will remain open from the west sidewalk. Please use caution around equipment and work crews’ activities.

Hansen Arena (Marshall Contracting, Laramie; August 2016) -- Work is ongoing to install new access ladders for the mechanical rooms in the ceiling Aug. 25-Sept. 2. Please use caution around crews.

Cheyenne Family Medicine (Pinnacle Cabinets, Cheyenne; September 2016) -- Demolition will begin on cabinetry to facilitate replacement of the existing reception desk. Please use caution near crews and equipment in this area. 

Wyoming Family Practice, Casper (Pope Construction, Mills; August 2016) -- Concrete work is to be completed at the new chiller equipment pad. Please use caution around crews, equipment and tools.

19th and Harney Streets (Elk Ridge Builders, Laramie; September 2016) -- Installation of ADA ramps on the northwest corner of 19th Street is scheduled to begin. Access will be on the east side of the street. Please use caution near crews and equipment.

Lewis Street from 12th Street to 15th Street (Elk Ridge Builders, Laramie; September 2016) -- Replacement of concrete and asphalt, and the addition of a new approach at the intersection of 13th and Lewis streets, will be ongoing. Plumbing repairs are taking place on a drain line adjacent to the Anthropology Building on the south side of Lewis Street. Please use caution near crews and equipment.

RMMC and Central Energy Plant (The Plumbing Company, Laramie; August 2016) -- Installation of irrigation pipe along 22nd and Harney streets continues. South-side, on-street parking, adjacent to the work area, will be closed temporarily as work progresses westward. Please use caution near equipment in this area.

Jacoby Golf Course -- Construction of the new irrigation system is complete. Landscaping and cleanup work continues around the pump house.

Central Energy Plant (ITC Electrical Technologies, Casper; September 2016) -- New transformers, generators and switchgear are being installed at the UW Central Energy Plant. The landscape area to the south and west of the plant will be partitioned off for construction activities. There will be storage containers, vehicles and equipment on the adjacent roadway. Please be cautious around crews and equipment in the area.

Education Building (Arcon Inc., Laramie; September 2016) -- Construction is ongoing for the Education Building window replacement project. The contractor will begin to demobilize from the east and north sides of the building. The scaffolding will remain on the south side of the building to enable ongoing awning repairs. Replacement of these windows is expected to improve energy efficiency and occupant comfort. Please be cautious of crews and equipment in the area.

Agriculture Building (Mastec, Denver, Colo.; November 2016) -- Installation of an AT&T Cellular site on the east roof of the building is underway. Please be cautious of work crews and equipment in the area.

Coe Library (SE Wyoming Insulation, Laramie; August 2016) -- Construction is ongoing in Room 206 to convert it into a presentation studio and an extra storage room. Existing lighting will be replaced with new LEDs. Please be cautious of work crews and equipment in the area.

Gibbon Street east of 15th Street (Equipment Services) -- Installation of the culvert at the RMMC storage building is complete. Maintenance activities on the gravel portion of Gibbon Street east of 15th Street will be ongoing. Please use caution around crews and equipment in the area.

Agriculture Building (Summit Sealants Inc., Montrose, Colo.; November 2016) -- Building exterior surface repairs; window glazing joints/window perimeter re-sealing, control joint re-sealing; and a new elastomeric coating are being applied to the Agriculture Building addition. There will be three hanging stages and associated rigging on the north and east elevations of the Agriculture Building addition. Traffic control and falling debris protective infrastructure will be in place. Please be cautious around crews and equipment.

American Heritage Center (Elk Ridge Builders, Laramie; August 2016) -- Installation of new ADA parking areas in the east and west end of the lot is scheduled. There also will be installation of a new underground drain line for roof drainage to the detention pond area. South access to the elevator will remain open at all times. Please use caution near crews and equipment in this area.

Arts and Sciences Building (Arcon Inc., Laramie; September 2016) -- Construction of the auditorium stage is complete. Construction on the upper balcony railing now will begin. Please be aware of crews and equipment in the area, and observe posted closures.

Coe Library (Source Office & Electrical Solutions, Laramie; September 2016) -- Construction for a partition wall system will begin at the open-stack study area (Room 230) around Aug. 31. Library operations will continue as normal. Please be cautious around crews and equipment. 

Facilities Architecture reports the following activities for the week:

Hoyt Hall Renovation (General contractor Elk Ridge Builders & Design LLC, Laramie; July 22, 2016) -- All work on this project is substantially complete, and a final certificate of occupancy has been issued by the city of Laramie. Relocation of all existing furniture and equipment from Crane Hall back to Hoyt Hall has been completed. A/V technology equipment wiring and other final building preparations are taking place this week for the start of the fall semester.

High Bay Research Facility (Haselden Wyoming Constructors, Laramie; scheduled completion spring 2017) -- Storm Drain No. 1 -- that will extend from the site south to a detention pond at 19th Street and Willett -- is under construction. The trench continuing across the lot south of the Animal Science Building is being excavated. Termination at the detention pond will occur in the next two weeks. Framing, sheathing and placement of the air/weather barrier is complete on the north electrical room. The roof also is complete. Electrical switchgear installation started this week in the north electrical room. The concrete tilt-up panels in the north wing will be power washed and complete next week. Lab casework installation has begun on the second floor of the west wing. The first coat of paint is nearing completion on the first floor of the west wing and will continue into the office of the north wing next week. The grid system for the acoustic tile continues on the second floor. Curtain wall framing is ongoing, with the current focus on the north and east elevations. Exterior stone masonry work continues on the north façade. Curb and gutter installation is complete, and sub base is being placed in preparation for the installation of the asphalt. Landscaping work, including the irrigation system, is ongoing on all sides of the building in an effort to place the majority of the plant material before the off season.

Facilities Construction reports the following activities for the week:

War Memorial Stadium and UniWyo Sports Complex Video Board Project (Panasonic Enterprise Solutions, Newark, N.J.; August 2016) -- The project includes replacement of the War Memorial Stadium south scoreboard and sound system; installation of LED ribbon boards on stadium fascia; replacement of the UniWyo Sports Complex video board and scoreboards; and updates to associated timing, scoring and A/V systems in both facilities. All significant project tasks are substantially complete. Punch-list items for the main video board are underway; landscaping and concrete additions are underway and are scheduled to be complete Aug. 31. Public access to War Memorial Stadium will remain open during the project, but be cautious of equipment, vehicles and construction crews in the area.

Engineering Education and Research Building Site Clearing/Demolition (General contractor Wyoming Earthmoving Corp., Rozet; September 2016) -- The general contractor has completed excavation and removal of a large deposit of unsuitable gypsum-based soil within the future Engineering Education and Research Building footprint. New, acceptable backfill soil from existing soil stockpiles located on campus will be brought in to replace the displaced material. A utility permit has been approved to allow installation of a new sanitary sewer line in 12th and Bradley streets, and removal of an existing abandoned sanitary sewer line in the east/west alley that bisects the project site. The contract completion date with Wyoming Earthmoving Corp. will be extended into September to allow completion of the sanitary sewer relocation and the demolition/removal of the remaining vacant house at 1103 Lewis St. Please observe all temporary barricades, construction fencing, cautionary signs or other posted instructions around the site where work is taking place.

Wyoming State Vet Lab Renovations (BSL-3) (General Contractor Sampson Construction, Cheyenne; June 2017) -- All temporary protection measures are in place. Demolition within the BSL-3 space began this week and will continue for the next two to three weeks. Contractor access to the building will be on the east side.

Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts (General Contractor Sampson Construction, Cheyenne; September 2017) -- The project includes the installation of a sanitary lift station for the building. The south side of the Performing Arts Center will be fenced off, and occupants will not be able to enter the building through the south side. Part of the south parking lot will be fenced off as contractors dig to install a new sanitary line. Use caution around equipment and work activities.   

The following projects are complete:

War Memorial Stadium (On the Spot Window Cleaning, Fort Collins, Colo.; August 2016) -- Annual cleaning of the west press box and Wildcatter Suites windows is complete.

Michael B. Enzi STEM Facility (Big Horn Roofing, Laramie; August 2016) -- Additional work to correct punch-list items to the roof is complete.

Agriculture North Lot (Summit Trucking and Housemoving, Laramie; August 2016) -- Use of the gravel lot north of the Agriculture Building by various contractors, for staging purposes for construction and demolition nearby on campus, is complete.

Engineering Building Petroleum Wing -- Installation of new ceiling tiles in the corridors in the Petroleum (west) wing of the Engineering Building is complete.

Engineering Building (Shepard Construction, Rawlins; August 2016) -- Classroom technology updates in the following classrooms are complete: 1055, 2109, 3111, 3114, 4066, 1039, 1041, 1034, 1062, 1060, B105, 2070, 2064, 2082, 2104, 4023, 3102, 4054, 4072, 4059, 5030, 5038, 6085 and 6060.

Health Sciences Building (Shepard Construction, Rawlins; August 2016) -- Classroom technology construction in Room 248 is complete.

Corbett Pool (UW Operations Plumbing Shop) -- Maintenance is complete.

Fieldhouse North (Marshall Contracting, Laramie; August 2016) -- Renovation of the wrestling locker room is complete.

American Heritage Center (The Plumbing Company, Laramie; August 2016) -- Irrigation pump house construction is complete.
