University of Wyoming Cultural Programs presents 19-year-old pianist Daniel Hsu, who will perform Friday, Nov. 18, at 7:30 p.m. in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts concert hall.

Tickets cost $15 for the public; $12 for senior citizens, UW faculty and staff; and $10 for students. Tickets are available at the Performing Arts box office and the Wyoming Union information desk, by calling (307) 766-6666 or going online at www.uwyo.edu/finearts.

Hsu also will make an appearance with the UW Symphony Orchestra Thursday, Nov. 17, at 7:30 p.m., also in the Performing Arts concert hall.

Hsu began his studies at the age of 6 with Larisa Kagan, and also studied with Hans Boepple, Erna Gulabyan and Olya Katsman before being accepted into the famous Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia at age 10.

He was named the 2016 Gilmore Young Artist and recently was named first prize winner at the Concert Artists Guild competition. He has earned top prizes in numerous other competitions, such as the bronze medal at the ninth Hamamatsu International Piano Competition in Japan, and first prize at the San Jose International Piano competition, Pacific Musical Society Piano competition and San Francisco Chopin competition.

In June, Hsu made his debut with the Philadelphia Orchestra and conductor-in-residence Cristian Măcelaru for the kickoff of Philadelphia’s Mann Center for the Performing Arts 40th anniversary season.

For the 2016-17 season, Hsu makes his Carnegie Hall debut on the Concert Artists Guild Competition Winners Series. He also performs recitals in other prominent series, including: Krannert Center for the Performing Arts; Pepperdine University Center for the Arts; Festival Napa Valley; and Chicago’s Dame Myra Hess Concert Series.

Recent recital highlights include the 2016 Gilmore International Keyboard Festival; Trust Performing Arts Center in Lancaster, Pa.; the Curtis Institute of Music; and in Japan at the Tokyo Bunka Kaikan, and ACT City Hamamatsu’s Concert and Main Halls.

Hsu recently was a featured soloist with the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra and, in the United States, he has appeared with the El Camino Youth Symphony, Fremont Symphony Orchestra, Golden Gate Philharmonic and the Lansing Symphony Orchestra at Michigan’s Wharton Center.

The last fall UW Cultural Programs event will be the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain Tuesday, Dec. 6.
