Despite losing employees in the department and having to pick up additional duties, Andrea Hastings-Arrollo has managed to serve the Department of Economics and Finance fully. Her continued dedication is among the attributes that have earned her the University of Wyoming Staff Employee of the Third Quarter award.

The award recognizes UW staff members for their efforts toward excellence in the workplace. Hastings-Arrollo is recognized as being a dedicated staff member who made sure the department was in order for the new semester when she left for maternity leave in the fall.

“She has met every challenge with grace (which really is her middle name!) and calmness. This incredible spirit has been infectious to our entire department as well as the college as a whole,” a nominator writes. “In addition, by keeping this department functioning efficiently, she has allowed us to address the key university-wide initiatives that have occurred over the summer, such as program reviews, adjustments to faculty job descriptions and teaching loads and, above all, delivering quality undergraduate and graduate teaching programs.”

The nominator adds that no other office staff was available to help Hastings-Arrollo through the summer and early last semester before she left on maternity leave.

“The quality of her work goes above and beyond excellent: She is doing the work of what used to be three people all by herself, and doing each job expertly, efficiently and with a smile,” another colleague writes. “Nobody should be put in the position that she finds herself in and, yet, she is completely unfazed.”

Hastings-Arrollo has been at UW since 2014, when she was the Department of Economics and Finance’s office associate/graduate coordinator. She has been the department’s office associate, senior, since 2016. She was a UW student from 2004-08 and held different positions during that time.

“I see what an amazing job my co-workers do, and it inspires me to do the same,” Hastings-Arrollo says. “I wouldn’t be half the employee I am without the dependable support of the other staff in the College of Business and across campus. This award really belongs to all of us.”

A reception to honor Hastings-Arrollo will be announced at a later date.

Employee of the Quarter nominees can be any UW staff employee and must receive three nomination forms from three separate individuals. Nominations must be submitted to the Staff Senate office. The forms are on the web at www.uwyo.edu/staffsenate/employee-of-the-quarter. The deadline to nominate someone for the first quarter is Friday, March 10.
