University of Wyoming Calendar for April 30

These are among the activities scheduled April 30-May 6 at the University of Wyoming:

Monday, April 30, 3:10 p.m. -- The UW Department of Geology and Geophysics Distinguished Lecturer Series presents Andrew Hurst, a professor of production geoscience at the University of Aberdeen. He will discuss “Petrography and Mineralogy of the Misery Following a Mass Extinction: An Early Triassic Loessite.” His talk will be in the S.H. Knight Geology Building, Room 216. A reception will follow in the UW Geological Museum. Free.

Monday, April 30, 7:30 p.m. -- The UW Department of Music’s Symphonic Band presents “A Wind Odyssey,” in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts concert hall. Tickets cost $10 for the public; $7 for senior citizens; and $6 for students. Tickets are available at the Performing Arts box office and the Wyoming Union information desk, by calling (307) 766-6666 or going online at www.uwyo.edu/finearts.

Tuesday, May 1, 7 p.m. -- UW Planetarium show, “This Month’s Sky.” Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement. Advance tickets are available in the Physical Sciences Building, Room 204, or by going online at www.uwyo.edu/physics/ and clicking on “Planetarium Schedule.”

Tuesday, May 1, 8:30 p.m. -- 7220 Entertainment’s Films Committee will screen “Spaceballs” in The Gardens, located in the lower level of the Wyoming Union. Free.

Wednesday, May 2, 12:10 p.m. -- The UW Art Museum will host “Lunchtime Conversations with Curators,” an informal gallery walk-through. May’s event will feature “Jon Lodge: Interface.” Free.

Wednesday, May 2-Friday, May 4, 7:30 p.m. -- UW’s Associated Students of the Performing Arts presents “Fun, Frolic and Death,” student-directed one acts, in the Performing Arts Studio Theatre. Tickets cost $4.50. They are available at the Performing Arts box office and the Wyoming Union information desk, by calling (307) 766-6666 or going online at www.uwyo.edu/finearts.

Thursday, May 3, 4 p.m. -- The UW Speaker Series in the Spatial Sciences presents Jeremy Mennis, a professor at Temple University. He will discuss “Social and spatial ecologies of risk and protection for mental health: Adventures with geographic ecological momentary assessment.” The talk will be in the Classroom Building, Room 214. Free.

Friday, May 4 -- Last day of UW classes for the spring semester.

Friday, May 4, 11 a.m. -- Union Fest, the year-end celebration for UW students, will take place in the Wyoming Union, on Simpson Plaza and in Prexy’s Pasture throughout the day. Events include free food, games, activities and live music. Free.

Friday, May 4, 5 p.m. -- 7220 Entertainment’s Large Scale Events Committee presents the band Orgone with special guest Analog Son. The concert is part of Union Fest in Prexy’s Pasture. Free.

Friday, May 4, 7:30 p.m. -- The UW Department of Music presents the Happy Jacks in concert in the Performing Arts concert hall. Free.

Friday, May 4, 8 p.m. -- UW Planetarium show, “Science Fiction in Star Wars.” The STAR Observatory on the rooftop of the Physical Sciences Building will be open from 8-10 p.m. Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement. Advance tickets are available in the Physical Sciences Building, Room 204, or by going online at www.uwyo.edu/physics/ and clicking on “Planetarium Schedule.”

Friday, May 4, 9:30 p.m. -- Stand-up comedian and actress Alice Wetterlund will perform in the Wyoming Union Ballroom as part of Union Fest. Free.

Friday, May 4, 10:30 p.m. -- 7220 Entertainment’s Films Committee will screen Marvel’s “Black Panther” in the Wyoming Union Family Room as part of Union Fest. Free.

Saturday, May 5-Sunday, May 6, 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. -- The UW Department of Theatre and Dance presents the 2018 Stage Combat Workshop in the Performing Arts Center. Ticket prices vary. Sunday, May 6, 1:30 p.m. -- UW’s Exercise is Medicine presents “Walk with a Doc” in War Memorial Fieldhouse. Free.
