Three new exhibitions will open this month at the University of Wyoming Art Museum.

“In Process: Behind the Scenes of the UW Art Museum” showcases the inner workings of exhibition planning, design, development and implementation. Over the course of three months, visitors will have the opportunity to catch glimpses of the exhibition development process -- how exhibitions are uninstalled, organized and installed. Transformations to the gallery space will be visible from June 4-Aug. 31.

“Western Legacy: The E.G. Meyer Family Collection” opens June 9 and will be on display through Aug. 18. E.G. “Gerry” Meyer, a professor emeritus of chemistry, has had a long UW career that included serving as dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and as the university’s first vice president for research. He also is one of Wyoming’s foremost art collectors. His grandmother, Anna Ilfeld, was an early patron of the famed Taos artists of New Mexico and, over the years, the Meyer family has added to its collection.

A significant portion of this primarily Western American art collection has been bequeathed to the UW Art Museum and includes more than 50 paintings, sculptures and drawings by well-known artists such as Frederic Remington, Charles M. Russell, Joseph Sharp, William Gollings, Thomas Moran, John Clymer and Edward Borein. A selection of these will be on view at the UW Art Museum.

September marks the 25th anniversary of the award-winning Centennial Complex by renowned architect Antoine Predock. To celebrate the milestone, the Art Museum will showcase highlights from the collection acquired over the last 25 years.

Today, the collection comprises over 8,000 paintings, drawings, prints, sculpture, photography, multimedia and objects from a variety of cultures and time periods.

“25 Years of Collecting: The UW Art Museum Collection” opens in two parts: the first section opens June 16, and the second opens July 28. The entire exhibition runs through Jan. 26, 2019.

For more information about the Art Museum, call (307) 766-6622, visit the website at www.uwyo.edu/artmuseum, or follow the museum on Facebook and Instagram.

Through its “Museum as Classroom” approach, the UW Art Museum places art at the center of learning for all ages. Located in the Centennial Complex at 2111 Willett Drive in Laramie, the museum is open Mondays through Saturdays from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday hours are extended to 7 p.m. February through April and September through November. Admission is free.
