University of Wyoming Calendar for Feb. 11

These are among the activities scheduled Feb. 11-17 at the University of Wyoming:

Monday, Feb. 11-Friday, Feb. 15 -- Black History Month events take place at various campus locations. Events are free and open to the public.

Monday, Feb. 11, 3:10 p.m. -- The UW Department of Geology and Geophysics Distinguished Lecturer Series presents Timothy Lyons, Distinguished Professor of Biogeochemistry at the University of California-Riverside. He will discuss “How Earth’s early oceans and atmosphere help guide the search for life beyond our solar system” in the S.H. Knight Geology Building, Room 216. A reception will follow in the UW Geological Museum. Free.

Monday, Feb. 11-Friday, Feb. 15, 7:30 p.m. -- The UW Department of Theatre and Dance presents “Pokes ’n’ Plainsmen” in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts Thrust Theatre. Tickets cost $14 for the public, $11 for senior citizens and $7 for students. Tickets are available at the Performing Arts box office and the Wyoming Union information desk, by calling (307) 766-6666 or going online at www.uwyo.edu/finearts.

Tuesday, Feb. 12, 12:20 p.m. -- The UW Division of Kinesiology and Health’s Intellectual Community Seminar Series presents Abbie Ferris, an assistant professor at the University of Northern Colorado. Ferris will discuss “Biomechanical Considerations in Persons with Transtibial Amputation.” Her talk will take place in the Corbett Building, Room 137. Free.

Tuesday, Feb. 12, 7 p.m. -- UW Harry C. Vaughan Planetarium show, “Distant Worlds -- Alien Life?Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement. Advance tickets are available in the Physical Sciences Building, Room 204, or by going online at www.uwyo.edu/physics/ and clicking on “Planetarium Schedule.”

Wednesday, Feb. 13, 6:30 p.m. -- Cowgirl basketball vs. Utah State University, Arena-Auditorium. Ticket prices vary.

Wednesday, Feb. 13, 7:30 p.m. -- The UW Department of Music’s Faculty Recital Series presents UW faculty members Blake McGee, clarinet, and James Przygocki, viola, and guest artist Brooks Hafey, piano. They will perform in the Performing Arts recital hall. Free.

Wednesday, Feb. 13, 8:30 p.m. -- 7220 Entertainment will host comedian Zainab Johnson in The Gardens, located in the lower level of the Wyoming Union. Free.

Thursday, Feb. 14, 7 p.m. -- StudioWYO will host Open Mic Night with poet MasterPiece in The Gardens, located in the lower level of the Wyoming Union. The event is free and open to the public; however, performances are limited to UW students, staff and faculty.

Friday, Feb. 15, 6:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. -- The 7220 Entertainment Films Committee will screen “Bohemian Rhapsody” in the Wyoming Union Family Room. Free.

Friday, Feb. 15, 7 p.m. -- UW Harry C. Vaughan Planetarium show, “The Cosmic Cooking Show.” The STAR Observatory on the rooftop of the Physical Sciences Building will be open to the public from 8-9:30 p.m. Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for non-students, Physical Sciences Building basement. Advance tickets are available in the Physical Sciences Building, Room 204, or by going online at www.uwyo.edu/physics/ and clicking on “Planetarium Schedule.”

Friday, Feb. 15, 7:30 p.m. -- Brazilian pianist Eduardo Monteiro, the UW Department of Music’s Eminent Artist-in-Residence, will be in concert in the Performing Arts recital hall. Free.

Saturday, Feb. 16, 8 p.m. -- Cowboy basketball vs. University of Nevada, Arena-Auditorium. Ticket prices vary.

Sunday, Feb. 17, 1 p.m. -- UW’s Exercise is Medicine On Campus presents “Walk with a Doc” in War Memorial Fieldhouse. Walk with a Doc is a national organization focused on encouraging healthy physical activity while reversing the consequences of a sedentary lifestyle. Free.

Sunday, Feb. 17, 3 p.m. -- The UW Department of Music presents guest pianist Adam Żukiewicz, an assistant professor of piano at the University of Northern Colorado. He will perform in the Performing Arts recital hall. Free.

Sunday, Feb. 17, 7:30 p.m. -- The University of Wyoming Chamber Orchestra presents “A Little Serenading Music.” The performance will take place in the Performing Arts concert hall. Tickets cost $10 for the public, $7 for senior citizens and $6 for students. Tickets are available at the Performing Arts box office and the Wyoming Union information desk, by calling (307) 766-6666 or going online at www.uwyo.edu/finearts.
