Students ages 12 through adult will participate in the 24th annual Snowy Range Summer Dance Festival July 17-27 at the University of Wyoming.

Hosted by the UW Department of Theatre and Dance, the festival provides professional-level training to participants. Dancers study for 10 days with distinguished faculty from around the country and perform work set on them during the culminating gala performance.

Two public performances are scheduled during the dance festival.

Festival students will share dances they have learned at their respective schools or studios during the  Student Showcase concert at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 23, in the UW College of Arts and Sciences auditorium. The event is free and open to the public, and is an opportunity for the audience to see what dance around the nation has to offer youth.

The Snowy Range Summer Dance Festival concludes with a gala concert -- also held in the A&S auditorium -- at 4 p.m. Saturday, July 27. The concert highlights the works of the faculty set on the participants during the festival and performances by members of the Limón Dance Company.

Tickets for the gala are $12 and can be purchased at the UW Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts box office, by calling (307) 766-6666 or going online at www.uwyo.edu/finearts.

This summer’s dance festival features the second participation of the Limón Dance Company. Members of the company will teach, choreograph and perform. Also featured will be Keith and Kellye Saunders, of Dance Theatre of Harlem; Jacob Mora, of Moraporvida Dance Company; Broadway performer Carol Schuberg; and Donovan Helma, formerly of Tap Dogs.

José Limón and Doris Humphrey founded the Limón Dance Company in 1946. The dance company has been at the vanguard of American modern dance since its inception and is considered among the world’s best-known dance companies. Acclaimed for their dramatic expression, technical mastery and expansive, nuanced movement, members of the Limón Dance Company illustrate the timelessness of the founder’s work and vision.
