Tom Tait

Accomplished and notable University of Wyoming alumnus Tom Tait will be on campus Monday, Oct. 28, for visits to the Honors College and the College of Business, presenting on the topic of kindness and business ethics.

Tait, a 1980 UW business graduate, is the current president and CEO of Tait & Associates, founded in 1964 and headquartered in Santa Ana, Calif.

Tait’s visit will include presentations at both the Honors College and the College of Business. Students interested in attending either the Honors College or College of Business events should email Peter Parolin at parolin@uwyo.edu or Kent Noble at knoble@uwyo.edu, respectively.

Tait also will meet with the leadership team of the College of Business; tour campus; and attend the football game against the University of Nevada.

After receiving his Bachelor of Science degree, Tait went on to earn a master’s degree in business administration from Vanderbilt University with a finance concentration, followed by a law degree from Vanderbilt in 1985.

Running on a platform of bringing the values of kindness and freedom to the culture of the city, Tait served as the 45th mayor of Anaheim, Calif., from 2010-18. As mayor, Tait promoted Anaheim as a “City of Kindness.” Under his Kindness Initiative, Anaheim Elementary School District students fulfilled a pledge to complete 1 million acts of kindness. Inspired by Anaheim’s “million acts of kindness,” mayors throughout the country have committed to fostering a culture of kindness in their cities to build social infrastructure and stronger, more resilient communities.

Tait has been invited to discuss his Anaheim Kindness Initiative before Congress, the White House, the Yale School of Management CEO Leadership Institute, the U.S. Conference of Mayors and other organizations. He is the founder of www.cityofkindness.org -- a nonprofit platform that is the growing center of the “kind” movement, a coalition of organizations working to inspire kindness in the world.
