UW Haub School Dean Finalists to Make Virtual Visits to Campus

The University of Wyoming is interviewing candidates for the Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources dean position. The UW campus community and the public are invited to attend virtual presentations by the candidates, scheduled May 12 and 18.

This dean search, which is at the most advanced stage of all UW dean searches, is proceeding with the support of Gov. Mark Gordon, incoming President Ed Seidel and Acting President Neil Theobald.

John Koprowski will interview May 12-13. He is currently director of the School of Natural Resources and the Environment, and a professor of wildlife and fisheries conservation and management at the University of Arizona. He teaches undergraduate courses in wildlife conservation and management, and graduate courses that deal with environmental and conservation challenges in human-dominated landscapes.

His research program focuses on the ecology, conservation and management of biodiversity in the United States, Mexico, Peru, Colombia, Nepal, China, Mongolia, South Africa and numerous other international locations. He holds a Ph.D. in biology from the University of Kansas.

Shelie Miller will interview May 18-19. She is currently director of the Program in the Environment at the University of Michigan and is the Jonathan W. Bulkley Collegiate Professor of Sustainable Systems in the School for Environment and Sustainability.

An engineer by training, her teaching and research focus on the environmental impacts of products across a number of sectors, including energy systems, biofuels, carbon capture and use, and plastics. She has been awarded a Presidential Early Career Award in Science and Engineering by the White House and served as a Jefferson Science Fellow through the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine. She holds a Ph.D. in civil and materials engineering from the University of Illinois-Chicago.

The candidates’ public presentations will describe how their personal experiences align with the Haub School legacy and mission; explore strategies to bring diverse economic, socioeconomic and political interests together to develop productive solutions to environment and natural resource challenges; and share a vision for the future of the Haub School.

The search committee welcomes input on the candidates from members of the UW community. A survey will be available to submit comments after the candidates present.
