UW Libraries Launches Digital Scholarship Center

To support scholarly output at the University of Wyoming, UW Libraries has launched the Digital Scholarship Center (DSC).

As a new service of UW Libraries, the DSC, located in Room 302 of Coe Library, provides technology and training for work on digital projects by UW community members. The purpose of the center is to extend traditional methods of research and teaching using new media and digital technologies.

“The launch of the Digital Scholarship Center constitutes a significant step forward in helping shape UW’s future, particularly as it relates to President Seidel’s strategic digital pillar,” says Ivan Gaetz, dean of UW Libraries. “UW Libraries will continue to advance UW’s educational mission by introducing students to digital computational methods, tools and computing systems that increasingly shape all disciplines of knowledge and aspects of life. The DSC will be the hub -- physically and virtually -- for collaborative spaces using digital technologies, and for information on, access to and practice with the existing and emerging digital tools that students and faculty need for research and scholarship in the 21st century.”

The DSC will host a slate of virtual workshops to assist and train researchers on various topics throughout the fall semester starting Thursday, Sept. 9. Highlights of programs include copyright and author rights; how to share research on WyoScholar (UW’s own open access repository); creating a researcher ID with ORCID; building an online scholarly profile; and measuring research impact. The programs in October will focus on open access and open education opportunities. The full schedule of programs and registration information can be found at https://uwyo.libcal.com/calendar/dsc.

Chealsye Bowley, digital scholarship librarian, who oversees the center, will offer Zoom drop-in hours from 10 a.m.-noon Wednesdays during the academic year starting Sept. 1. Consultations also are available by appointment by emailing cbowley@uwyo.edu or scholcom@uwyo.edu.

For more information about the DSC or upcoming programs, visit www.uwyo.edu/digital; or call Bowley at 766-6860 or email cbowley@uwyo.edu.
