The fall issue of UWyo Magazine, the flagship publication of the University of Wyoming, highlights the university’s efforts regarding animals and wildlife in the region.

“UW is synonymous with animals, from our mascots to the bucking horse and rider symbol,” UWyo Magazine Editor Micaela Myers says. “In addition, as the state’s land-grant institution, we are intimately connected to Wyoming’s wildlife and ranches, and much of our research efforts are focused on these areas. For these reasons and more, we chose this fun theme for our fall issue.”

Stories include:

-- Migrations: Discover how UW is a national leader in mapping wildlife migrations.

-- Horses: Meet the horses of UW, from Cowboy Joe, to War Paint, to Pistol and Pete, and the rodeo team.

-- Museums: Learn about how the Museum of Vertebrates and the Wyoming Natural Diversity Database are aiding research and decision-making.

-- Philanthropy: Meet Riverbend Ranch Endowed Chair in Wildlife-Livestock Health Kerry Sondgeroth, and see how students, staff and alumni are making a difference volunteering for animals.

-- Service dogs: Better understand service animals, and meet two campus service dogs.

-- Fossils: Read about mammoth research offering new insights into early humans, and tour the UW Geological Museum.

-- College of Agriculture, Life Sciences and Natural Resources: Discover several new programs and efforts, including the new biocontainment facility lab, sheep and wool research and outreach, and the new Ranch Management and Agriculture Leadership Program.

-- Plus: Meet UW wildlife researchers, see how students benefit from puppy and kitten playdates, hear about pet-related classes, step inside the latest UW Art Museum exhibit and more.
