UW Writing Center and WyCOA Collaborate on Intergenerational Creative Writing Project

The University of Wyoming’s Writing Center and the Wyoming Center on Aging (WyCOA) are collaborating on a “Write Time at the Center” program.

The program offers creative writing instruction to enhance writing skills and intergenerational communication in the Laramie community. Write Time at the Center aims to improve relationships between students and older adults by providing a collaborative environment for participants to learn together and from each other while developing creative writing abilities.

The program’s pilot phase will consist of two workshops: Wednesday, April 19, and Wednesday, April 26, from 3-5 p.m., located in Room 121 of Coe Library. The workshops will be led by a facilitator from the UW Writing Center and will focus on fiction and poetry, with nonfiction instruction included this fall. The workshops will include generative writing prompts, short readings, discussion of writing techniques and time for participants to share their work.

Write Time at the Center is open to older adults in the Laramie community, as well as any undergraduate- or graduate-level student enrolled at UW. The group will be limited to 12 participants to ensure that everyone has ample opportunity to share their work and receive feedback.
