University of Wyoming custodian Rachel Flores -- assigned to the College of Health Sciences Building’s third floor and half of the third and fourth floors in the School of Pharmacy wing -- is the UW staff employee of the year.

Flores will be honored during Staff Recognition Day Thursday, April 13, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in the UW Conference Center. “Arcade Fun” is the theme for this year’s event that also will recognize individual staff award recipients and years of service honorees. Food, games and prizes will be available during the annual event.

Staff Recognition Day honors the hard-working staff of UW. It provides an opportunity to show all staff members how much they are appreciated for everything they do to keep UW -- on the main campus and throughout the state -- functioning and providing a top-notch educational experience to thousands of students.

Two hours of release time will be granted to staff members to attend the event. The scheduling of release time should be a collaborative discussion between employee and supervisor to ensure the effective and efficient operation of the unit.

Flores was named the UW Staff Employee of the Fourth Quarter earlier this semester. This award, sponsored by Staff Senate, recognizes UW staff members for their efforts toward excellence in the workplace. All of her nominators were unanimous in praise of her work, saying no matter the task, Flores makes sure it is done correctly and to the best of her abilities. And she always does it with a smile.

Other staff members who will be honored during Staff Recognition Day are:

E.G. Meyer Family Award -- Tracy Bennett, Department of Family and Consumer Sciences accountant; and Judy Yates, School of Computing administrative associate.

All-Star Team Staff Award -- Melanie Vigil, Brianna White and Kora Wolfgang, all Multicultural Affairs senior project coordinators.
