Graduate Education

Maya Wilde

Master of Social Work (MSW)

Education History:

I received my Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from the University of Wyoming in 2011.

Research Project:

My research focus is on learning disabilities in correlation to mental illnesses in adolescents.

Why I chose UW for graduate education:

I enjoyed my undergraduate experience in Laramie, and I wanted to continue to work with the social work faculty who were so accommodating and knowledgeable. The University of Wyoming is a great place for me because I love the outdoors, and Laramie offers many opportunities to stay active and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.

 Current position and future goals:

I am starting my second and final year of the Part Time Advanced Standing MSW program. I am completing the School Social Work Graduate Concentration track so I can gain my certificate in school social work and work in secondary schools in Wyoming. My husband and I would love to relocate back to Cheyenne.

Advice for potential future students considering UW:

While stimulating and worthwhile, graduate school is a huge commitment. Make sure you are mentally and financially prepared to get the most out of your graduate experience. Additionally, make sure you keep a healthy balance of education and your personal life. The University of Wyoming has many opportunities to get involved and gain both academic and social support; just don’t be afraid to seek out what you need!
