photograph of nevin aikenNevin Aiken, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Political Science and International Relations in the School of Politics, Public Affairs and International Studies. His scholarly research focuses on the impact of transitional justice interventions on processes of post-conflict reconciliation in societies deeply divided by past legacies of gross human rights violations. Most recently, Dr. Aiken has turned his expertise towards designing immersive educational opportunities and guiding students on experiential travel programs in conflict-affected regions as Academic Director for the non-profit Center for International Experiential Learning (CIEL). For his Faculty Fellows project, Dr. Aiken will focus on the establishment of the Experiential Learning Resource Center (ELRC) within the Global Engagement Office. The ELRC will help to foster comprehensive internationalization at UW by creating a new collaborative space designed to promote faculty excellence and cross-college engagement in international experiential learning as a way to create new transformative educational opportunities for UW students and position the university as a future-focused innovator and center of excellence in the field of experiential education.
