UW Alumni Association

Board of Directors

The University of Wyoming Alumni Association is governed by a Board of Directors. The Executive Director manages the association’s affairs. Board members are elected, rather than appointed by the Association’s voting membership to three-year terms with the opportunity to serve a consecutive three-year term. Board seats are assigned according to geographic region, the exception being young alumni board members: Board Composition. Election ballots are emailed to members in June. Only paid and active UWAA members have voting rights.

The board carries out objectives and purposes specified in UWAA’s bylaws. It provides strategic direction, makes operational recommendations, and holds fiduciary responsibility for the Association. The full board meets twice yearly, with more frequent committee meetings in between. Work is divided among board members according to committee assignment. Serving on the board is a rewarding experience, but one that requires commitment. UWAA board members are volunteers in the truest sense; not only do they give of their time, they pay for all expenses associated with board meetings.

There are five standing committees of the board that reflect UWAA’s programs: scholarship; membership and outreach; communications; revenue development and special projects; and student recruitment and enrichment. The board’s elected officers – the Executive Committee – provide additional guidance and direction for association affairs. The Executive Committee includes eight elected vice presidents and UWAA’s past president, president, president elect, and treasurer. The scholarship committee makes recommendations regarding scholarship review and distribution, for both the UWAA and UW License Plate programs. The membership and outreach committee makes recommendations regarding membership development and benefits along with alumni outreach activities. The revenue development and special projects committee is charged with developing initiatives of interest to alumni and funding those efforts, including the annual scholarship club auction. The communications committee makes recommendations regarding the UWAA section in the UWyo Magazine, the association’s online presence and any other forms of mass communication. The student recruitment and enrichment committee proposes ways to promote services to prospective students, including supporting the recruitment of prospective students, and providing current UW students with support by offering a variety of student programs and services.
