Geography Program
For over 50 year the Geography Program has provided an interdisciplinary home for understanding the people and environments of the world. By studying the socio-political, cultural and physical landscapes of the Earth and their interdependencies, geography majors learn to solve problems from a transdisciplinary/interdisciplinary perspective in our increasingly complex and interconnected world. At the University of Wyoming the Geography Program brings faculty from across campus to teach students:
The physical and human dimensions of Earth’s grand challenges;
Methods of both physical and social sciences and how they complement one another;
The role of space and place in phenomena across a wide range of scales; and
To think critically about interconnections among the physical Earth and culture, economy and politics.
What can you do with a Geography Degree:
- Students will gain a global perspective and knowledge required for many careers ranging from international business (e.g., energy or development consultants working in Africa) to health and education (e.g., doctors working with immigrant communities; K-12 teachers presenting the Wyoming social science standards). These examples represent former students.
- Students with a Geography degree have an advantage for Federal and state jobs in USA Jobs where a Geography BS degree is a requirement for many positions including numerous positions in Wyoming.
The Geography Program is now one of the programs offered by the Department of Geology & Geophysics
