The Global Engagement Office maintains funding to encourage and support UW faculty and staff members who are already abroad to conduct short site visits to establish and/or maintain international partnerships and linkages on behalf of the University. Knowing that UW faculty and staff members often travel internationally for conferences, research, etc., the goal of this modest grant fund is to provide supplemental funding to cover additional expenses associated with conducting such visits as an add-on to the faculty or staff member’s pre-arranged travel (such as housing, meals, local transportation).
What is an international site visit? A typical site visit would be organized by Global Engagement and the staff of the organization being visited and is usually limited to a short office or campus visit. Site visits may include activities such as touring a university campus, meeting with local faculty and staff, visiting an agency related to international student recruitment, speaking with prospective international students, visiting national funding agencies concerned with international research and engagement, familiarization visits with established education abroad partners, etc. Global Engagement will work closely with each traveling faculty or staff member to arrange an appropriate visit in alignment with time allowed and interest.
Who is eligible to apply, and how much is the grant? Any UW faculty or staff member is welcome to conduct a site visit as part of previously arranged travel. Individuals may apply for multiple or successive site visit grants. UW faculty and staff members will be reimbursed up to $250 per approved site visit. Standard UW financial reimbursements policies and procedures apply.
What is required of grant recipients? Grant recipients are asked to provide feedback by completing a brief site visit report, the template for which will be provided prior to the site visit. Global Engagement staff review these reports as part of our mission to continually assess and improve operations and further extend UW’s global engagement aspirations. Unless permitted, feedback will not be shared directly with host organizations.
