Background and expertise

Dr. Doug Wachob's academic background is in wildlife ecology with an emphasis on the ecology of human dominated landscapes. He received his BS from the University of Minnesota and MS and PhD degrees from the University of Wyoming in Zoology and Physiology and was an award-winning instructor at the University of Wyoming.

He was former Associate Executive Director at Teton Science Schools. During his time there, he directed the Teton Research Institute, Graduate Program, Development and Communications, and Property Management divisions. He has taught graduate and undergraduate courses in ecology, sustainability, natural resource management, and education. He was recently the Director of Conservation for the Alaska Chapter of The Nature Conservancy.

Doug's career has focused on conservation; educating students about the natural world, science, education, wild landscapes, and wildlife; and training educators to use the outdoors as an effective educational environment. He is an avid outdoors person with strong interests in outdoor recreation including cross-country skiing, backpacking, hiking, hunting, and most anything related to wilderness.
