Co-Sponsor Support Fund

The Wyoming Institute for Humanities Research seeks to be an engine for producing research in the humanities; a hub of community for faculty, students, and the public; and a model of democratic education, fit for our land grant university.

As part of these aims, the Humanities Institute has established a fund to support humanities-related activities at the university. The kinds of activities eligible for support from this fund include, but are not limited to:

  • Bringing distinguished scholars in humanities related fields to deliver public talks at the university, affiliated community colleges and/or broader Wyoming community.

  • Developing seminars, symposia, conferences, and/or workshops that help foster and advance humanities based research at the university.

  • Covering the costs of honoraria, travel, and other incidental expenses for these kinds of activities.

Applications must include:

  1. The cover sheet provided below

  2. A detailed description of the intended use of the funding, specifically discussing how the application fulfills the general purpose of promoting humanities-based research (no longer than one single spaced page)

  3. A detailed budget listing specific categories and amounts of proposed expenditure for each. This budget should reflect: (1) the total cost of the proposed activity; (2) the costs that will be covered by the Wyoming Institute for Humanities Reserach funds; and (3) other sources from whom you are requesting funding and, if available, the amount that each has pledged (no longer than one single spaced page).

Consideration/Approval Process:

Applications for funding from the WIHR Co-Sponsor Support Fund will be considered on 15th of each month. Applications will be evaluated on a competitive basis and assessed in terms of their merit in helping to foster and advance humanities based scholarship and/or the community of humanities scholars at UW. Generally speaking, WIHR funding will be limited to $1000 per request; the average award may be approximately $500. Successful applicants must agree to give due public recognition to the Yoming Insititute for Humanities Research in all publicity for their event.

Any questions about the fund or application process should be directed to: Scott Henkel, Director, Wyoming Institute for Humanities Research, scott.henkel@uwyo.edu, with a copy to humanities@uwyo.edu.
