1) For All Students, Undergraduate and Graduate

  • AfterCollege/AACN Nursing Scholarship Fund
    • AfterCollege, the leading employment Web site for nursing/allied health care students and the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) have partnered to offer this new scholarship program for students pursuing professional nursing education programs. This scholarship program supports students who are seeking a baccalaureate, master's or doctoral degree in nursing. Special consideration will be given to students:

      • Enrolled in a master's or doctoral program with the goal of pursuing a nursing faculty career;

      • Completing an RN to baccalaureate program (BSN); or

      • Enrolled in an accelerated baccalaureate or master's degree nursing program.

    • Please note that all applicants must already be enrolled (not just accepted) at an AACN member institution. To check if your school is a member, see http://www.aacn.nche.edu/membership/member-schools.

    • Who Qualifies? Nursing students enrolled in a baccalaureate, master's or doctoral degree program in nursing with a GPA of 3.25 or higher. Scholarships will be in the amount of $2,500. The deadlines are January 31, April 30, July 31 and October 31. Winners will be announced within 60 days of each deadline.

  • Army Nursing Scholarships

    Army ROTC offers 2, 3 and 4 year Nursing scholarships to qualified individuals at The University of Wyoming Fay w. Whitney School of Nursing. This scholarship guarantees service in the Army Nurse Corps upon graduation and commissioning.

  • Benefits Healthcare Foundation in Great Falls, MT Scholarship
    • The Healthcare Scholarship program is tied to a work commitment to Benefits Healthcare. The scholarships can provide up to $2,500 per semester. Due dates for applications are 5/15 for summer and fall consideration, and 10/1 for spring consideration.

  • Johnson & Johnson:

  • National Health Service Corps Scholarship and/or Loan Repayment (go to: http://www.nhsc.hrsa.gov). Click on the "Scholarships" tab on that page.
  • Wyoming Healthcare Professional Loan Repayment Program

    The intent of the program is to enhance the ability of medically underserved Wyoming communities to recruit and retain healthcare professionals.


(2) For Pre-Nursing Students Only (Sophomore Standing upcoming academic year)

If you are a pre-nursing sophomore student, you can apply for the following scholarship (with the "General Scholarship Application" form bulleted in #4 below):

(3) Miscellaneous: Read to see if you qualify

  • Platte Valley Bank Scholarship through WY Alumni Association
    • for UW students with junior or senior status

    • $2000 annually ($1,000 for Fall and $1000 for Spring)

    • Recipient must maintain a 2.5 cumulative GPA while taking minimum of 12 credit hours each semester on the Laramie campus

    • Deadline for application: March 15

  • APNA JANSSEN STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP ANNOUNCED
    • Apply online by early May at http://www.apna.org.

    • Recipients are typically announced at the end of June.
    • The American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA) invites nursing students with an interest in psychiatric mental health nursing to apply for the APNA Janssen Student Scholarship Program.

    • This program in the past included registration, travel, and lodging expenses to attend the APNA Annual Conference, in the fall (October in the past).

    • A stipend for meals and expenses was also provided previously.

    • In addition, winners received a one-year membership in the APNA. Scholarship recipients and their schools received national recognition via the Web site, the conference program materials, and through the Journal of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association.

    • This scholarship program was available in the past through the generous support from Janssen, Division of Ortho-McNeil-Janssen Pharmaceuticals, Inc., administered by Ortho-McNeil Janssen Scientific Affairs, LLC.

  • Outreach Scholarship

    Edelweiss Fund aims to help Outreach School students with living expenses such as rent, utilities and childcare while pursuing their degree. For more information about who qualifies for the scholarship and where to get more details, please click on the link below.

  • Zonta Scholarship - deadline April 30th

    Criteria:

    • Must be female

    • Must be a Laramie resident for at least one year

    • Must be a full-time student

    • Have 2.5 GPA or above

For those undergraduate students who have already been admitted to the nursing major or are applying for the next academic year

  • Mabel C. Sargent Scholarship - Deadline February 1st
    • This Scholarship Application is available from the Wyoming Community Foundation (WYCF) Web site (http://www.wycf.org). Please read through the eligibility criteria below to see if you might qualify. The application is lengthy, needs a current transcript attached (you can request a transcript from Registration & Records) and you would deliver to the Foundation located in downtown Laramie (address on application form). This is an excellent scholarship (6 scholarships offered for $5,000 each). If you received this scholarship as a junior, you need to reapply, since it does not automatically carry into the senior year.

    • Eligibility Criteria for Mabel C. Sargent Scholarship:

      • Geographic requirements: Junior and senior nursing students of the University of Wyoming enrolled in a program leading to a B.S.N. degree may apply.

      • Academic requirements: Applicants should have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.

  • Scholarships through Student Financial Aid Offices

    In general, the same financial aid is available to students who are seeking a degree through off-campus programs as to students who are seeking a degree in Laramie. Each of the community colleges has the book Student Financial Aid and Scholarships at Wyoming Colleges, which is published annually. In this book, you will find that the University of Wyoming has a section of scholarships for nursing students. Go to the UW Student Financial Aid Scholarship section (http://www.uwyo.edu/SFA/scholarship/).

  • Marge Wilson Nursing Scholarship - Deadline June 15, 2012

    The purpose of this scholarship is to provide financial assistance to nursing students. The Selection Advisory Committee considers a student's academic record and achievement, as well as a willingness to work in a nursing capacity in Wyoming after the completion of education. Proof of acceptance [into an accredited nursing degree program] must accompany the application.

    • Applicants should have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA

    • Number and duration of awards: Up to $4,000 will be awarded each year to one or more recipients

    • A recipient may be enrolled as either a full-time or part-time student throughout each term

    • Summer school attendance is not required, but would be considered a plus.

    • Deadline is June 15, 2012, however applications will be accepted throughout the year.

    • Successful candidates will be notified, informing him/her of the grant award amount.

    • In addition to the completed application, a transcript of credits and proof that you have been accepted into an accredited nursing degree program is required.

      • WYIN Repayment Loan process is new

      • Requirements and amount of funding have not changed

      • Deadline to begin loan process is July 12th or before

      • All previous funding applications are VOID

      • You must restart the process

    • Eligibility Requirements:

      • You must be admitted to the School of Nursing

      • You must be a resident of Wyoming or a Wyoming high school graduate

      • You must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

    • Loan Amount and Additional Info:

      • Loan provides up to $6,000 per academic year which can be repaid by working in Wyoming as a nurse or nurse educator.

      • Qualified work in Wyoming will be credited so that the applicant's WYIN loan balance is reduced on the basis of one full year of full-time employment repaying the loan balance for one academic year of enrollment.

      • If an applicant fails to fulfill the requirements of repayment by qualified work, the funds will revert to a loan status and repayment will begin.

      • Details of repayment and terms will be provided if an applicant is selected.

  • College of Health Sciences Scholarships

  • Banner National Nurse Scholar Program

5) For Students in BRAND Program Only (Accelerated BSN)

  • Wyoming Accelerated Loan Repayment Nursing Program

    Deadline To Be Announced

    • Application - not yet available 

    • Loan Contract - not yet available 

    • W.S. 21-17-127 - funded for 2009 & 2010 

    • Funded by the Wyoming Legislature 

      • Five loans of $25,000 for each year 

      • Distributed through Financial Aid by semester 

      • Must meet Wyoming residence status as granted by UW Admissions 

      • Must have a 3.0 or higher GPA 

      • Must submit a scholarship application 

      • Must sign a loan agreement 

      • Must attend meeting in person or by phone to review contract with UW official 

      • Acceptance to the accelerated nursing program 

      • Repay through working as a registered nurse in Wyoming for two years or paying back the loan amount with interest

  • Robert Wood Johnson (RWJ) / American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) Scholarship
    Deadline To Be Announced
    • Application - not yet available

    • Letter of Intent - not yet available 

    • Consent and Release Form - not yet available 

    • This is awarded to UW on a yearly basis through a competitive process. E-mail will be sent out if scholarship will be funded for 2009-2010

      • Five awards of $10,000 each ($2000-Fall, $4000-Spring, $4000-Summer)

      • Must submit a scholarship application

      • Successful applicant must meet a minimum of one of the following:
        - Under-represented in nursing: Racial/ethnic minorities, or male gender, or WY rural/frontier isolated community resident
        - Disadvantage Background: site bound in WY, or under-employed, or financial hardship, or single parent, or documented learning disability\

    • Sign a letter of Commitment and a Consent and Release form for RWJ

6) For Registered Nurses (RN/BSN & Graduate Students ONLY)


7) For the Graduate Student in the DNP Program

  • Nurse Traineeship Grant:

    Funds are applied for yearly to the federal government. Information is e-mailed to students once award has been received by the School. Crystal McFadden will contact students through e-mail regarding funding criteria (cmcfadd4@uwyo.edu).

8) For Graduate Nurse Practitioner Students

  • Graduate Advanced Practice Nursing Scholarship

    This scholarship is from the Wyoming Council for Advanced Practice Nurses.

    • Application deadline: June

    • You must be a Wyoming resident or former Wyoming resident that plans on returning to Wyoming to practice.

  • Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE) - Western Regional Graduate Program (WRGP)
    • Reduced Tuition Costs for Eligible Nurse Practitioner Students 

    • Being a resident of a WICHE-participating state qualifies you to seek reduced tuition costs through WRGP. If you are a resident of one of the following states, you can benefit from WRGP: Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, and Washington. This program allows you to come to the University of Wyoming under resident tuition rates. 

    • You need to be officially accepted into our graduate nursing program before the WRGP benefit kicks in. 

    • You cannot utilize these benefits as a Non-Degree Seeking Graduate Student. 

    • Once you have been officially accepted into one of the MS Program options, let Crystal McFadden know that you qualify for WICHE's WRGP so that paperwork may be completed - email cmcfadd4@uwyo.edu

  • AANP Foundation Scholarship & Grant Program
    • Provides educational scholarships for MSN-NP, Post-MS NP, and Doctoral education and project and research grants (for student NPs and practicing NPs) exclusively to members of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) 

    • Application submission deadline for annual funding cycle is in mid-October yearly.  Information is published online at the AANP Foundation Web site in February and August. Application deadline dates are April 3 and October 3.

9) For Graduate Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner students:
