University of Wyoming School of Computing

 

The School of Computing is a hub of innovation and knowledge exchange for computing and digital skills.

The new school aims to provide University of Wyoming students, faculty and staff, and Wyoming businesses and citizens with the computational tools, skills and approaches to drive transformation and innovation in the state. The School of Computing will champion broader efforts to make the University of Wyoming more digital, inclusive, interdisciplinary, and entrepreneurial through computing partnerships across Wyoming.

Vision:

Create a unique and inspirational School of Computing with national impact and global reach, providing Wyoming and the world with agile and ethical computing professionals, empowered to address societal challenges that are inherently interdisciplinary.   

Mission:

Position our land grant institution as: a national leader in computational and digital research, education, and engagement; a computational hub for students, faculty, staff, community, and our industry/state/academic partners; a steward, supporter, and developer of digital skills and computational thinking for all.

Get Involved with the School of Computing:

There are many ways to get involved with the School of Computing:

  • To hear about School of Computing news, events, and new initiatives, join our mail list and follow us on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
  • If you are a student at the University of Wyoming and interested in computing or already using computing and have ideas for us, or just want to talk about how you might start learning about computing, please schedule a time to come and visit us by emailing uwyo-soc@uwyo.edu.
  • We are very keen to work with all the higher education institutes in Wyoming, if you are at a community college and would like to talk, please get in touch with our Director of Engagement.
  • We are particularly interested in working with industry and corporate partners from Wyoming and nearby to find internship opportunities in computing for students, to understand new computing needs for the workforce, and investigate research partnerships. Please contact our Director of Engagement if you are interested to discuss!
  • To partner with the School of Computing through the request of sponsorships or other support please complete the School of Computing Funding Request Form. Responses may take up to a week. Please contact Raya Hegeman-Davis (rhegema1@uwyo.edu) with any questions.

The School of Computing is a component of the Digital Infrastructure and Technology category of the Wyoming Innovation Partnership (WIP). Through the WIP, the School of Computing has been able to fast track its start-up and is focusing on activities such as industrial partnerships, training, and community college collaboration that will have the most impact on economic development.
