Students are highly encouraged to study abroad while attending the University of Wyoming. The Middle East and North Africa are large, diverse regions of the world. Students interested in studying abroad in the Middle East/North Africa are directed to choose one of the abroad paths below that best suits the academic and personal goals.

CIEL Israeli-Palestinian Conflict & Peace Process Summer 2023

This study abroad experience allows UW students to travel to the Middle East and learn more about the Israel-Palestinian conflict. Students are exposed to peace processes, diplomatic relations, and foreign policy. Students will meet politicians, community leaders, non-governmental organizations, faith leaders, and victims/survivors from all sides impacted by the conflict to hear a comprehensive view of the divergent perspectives, narratives, and human stories of people living in the region.

Hosted by the Center for International Experiential Learning, students will be in Jordan, Israel, and the West Bank.

Track 1: Cultural Immersion

Jordan

Studying abroad in Jordan is best suited for a typical UW student and fits any major. Students are in Amman, Jordan, where they will have the opportunity to stay with a host family. Amman is one of the oldest cities globally but is an excellent blend of historic beauty and modern elements. Have the opportunity to explore the Dead Sea, learn Arabic, and experience the rich culture of Jordan
Track 2: Exchange Program

Morocco

Located in North Africa and bordering the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea, Morocco is culturally diverse and unique. Students wanting to participate in an exchange program should consider this track. UW students learn at Al Akhawayn University and have an opportunity to immerse themselves in college life in Morocco.
Track 3: Military Personnel

Tunisia

The Wyoming National Guard (WNG) has an institutional relationship with the Republic of Tunisia. The University of Wyoming assists the WNG with translation and increasing cultural-political awareness. UW students in the WNG, ROTC, or seeking a career in the military will benefit most from this track. Students can study abroad, gain new experiences, and advance in their military future.
Track 4: Project GO ROTC

Jordan

ROTC students interested in studying abroad should consider applying for the Project GO scholarship. Funded by the Department of Defense, ROTC students learn a critical language and study in domestic or abroad programs over the summer. UW Project GO focuses on Arabic, and students will spend ten weeks in Jordan this summer. Open to any ROTC student in the country who meets the eligibility requirements. Track 6: Peace & Conflict

IsraEL/PALESTINE

Participants from UW in CIEL's Middle East program will join other students from universities across the US and UK in immersive educational travel to receive on-the-ground exposure to the people, politics, and realities of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict as they transit between the difficult and contested geographies of Jordan, Israel, and the West Bank.
