Li Xu is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Art Education and Foundations at the University of Wyoming. She holds PhDs in Art Education from the University of North Texas and in Philosophy from Beijing Normal University. Her interdisciplinary research lies at the intersections of philosophy, art, aesthetics, and education, with a particular focus on embodied perception, aesthetic experience, and human relationships with material, cultural, and more-than-human worlds.
Drawing on Western and Eastern philosophical traditions, Xu investigates how the diversity and complexity of bodily experience shape ways of perceiving, knowing, making, and learning. Her research brings philosophical inquiry into dialogue with art and artistic practice, exploring how human beings perceive, make meaning, learn, and inhabit the world through embodied and aesthetic experience. Xu has published peer-reviewed scholarship across philosophy, aesthetics, art education, and environmental thought, with work appearing in journals including Studies in Philosophy and Education, Visual Arts Research, Religions, and Research in Arts and Education. She serves on the Editorial Board of Visual Arts Research and is a co-editor of the interdisciplinary volume Linking Arts with Biocultural Conservation, Restoration, and Communication, published by Springer Nature (2026). Her scholarly research is complemented by an active artistic and curatorial practice that extends these inquiries through material experimentation, multisensory experience, ecological thinking, and practice-based research.
