Professional Development Electives

Note: Electives are governed by the approved list in effect at the time a course is taken. Students should therefore check the current list before enrolling in a course to confirm that the course is an approved elective.

Professional Development Elective Selection Guidelines:

CE Areas of Emphasis:

  1. Environmental Engineering
  2. Geotechnical Engineering
  3. Structural Engineering
  4. Transportation Engineering
  5. Water Resources Engineering

18 hours of structured Professional Development Electives (PDE) are required. A CDE activity must be included in those 18 hours. Electives are to be selected from the 5 areas of emphasis according to the following criteria:

CE 4260 (structural) 3 hours
One Course in 3 of the other 4 areas 9 hours
Two additional courses in any of the 5 Areas 6 hours
Total = 18 hours

Degree Check: When the student has 50 hours or less to completion, the advisor and student must complete a Degree Check in which the complete program of study is given. This includes listing all courses that will be required for graduation. The student should have a program of study laid out prior to the advisor meeting.
