Courses

Explore the world from the inside out through transdisciplinary study in Scotland.

Every Summer (usually May), UW faculty lead a three-week course that starts in Scotland, and ends anywhere your interest, intellect, and local transportation can take you. You will begin with a Spring prep course that readies you for transdisciplinary study in Scotland, and allows you to participate in course development relevant to your interests. Credits overall: 3-6.

  • Students start in residence at the novelist Walter Scott’s amazing, heritage house (Abbotsford) in the Scottish Borders.
  • Courses are led by two faculty from different disciplines, who have trained in transdisciplinary teaching and experiential learning. Courses are themed, but designed to engage students from any discipline, and to support them in exploratory study.
  • Admission to the program is by competitive application.
  • Successful students may apply for Cheney scholarship support, and travel funding from their departments and college.
