Student Practicum Director: Carly Mansker

I was born and raised in Walden, Colorado, about an hour south of Laramie. I graduated from Colorado State University in 2017 with a BS in interior design and a minor in construction management. I had plans to move across the country and further my education with a Master of Architecture degree. During the application process I temporarily moved home to help family open a new restaurant. In the year I spent in my hometown I renewed my appreciation for rural life, its people, and their authenticity.

While living in Walden, I experienced how seriously underserved rural areas are with regards to access to legal counsel. I chose to study law to pursue a career in estate and agricultural law so that I may join the two percent of lawyers who are serving the roughly twenty percent of Americans residing in rural areas. Ultimately, I intend to be licensed to practice in both Wyoming and Colorado.

The University of Wyoming College of Law has enabled me to continue residing in my small community while pursuing my law degree. I first applied to the Estate Planning Practicum for the 2L Legal Assistant position in hopes of expanding my skills and acquiring hands-on experience in a law-firm-like environment. Having now spent the last year involved with the EPP as the 2L Legal Assistant, I am keenly aware of the immense value of the practicum and how it is providing me with the tools to better serve the legal needs of my rural community after graduation. I am thrilled to be able to continue my work at the EPP over the next year.
